Letter from the Publisher
Happy New Year!
This is our 7th issue and we are still going strong. There have been a few changes within forest education since we started but that is the nature of the forest industry. One change is that Norma Blissett is taking on some new education challenges… she is going after her Masters in Education. All the best Norma and welcome to Jim Jenkinson as the new forest educator in the East Kootenays.
ForestEDWest III has come and gone… We are pleased to say it was a fantastic success and that it was wonderful to see many of you at the conference. The list of keynote and panel speakers was impressive and the presentations being offered in breakout sessions provided something for everyone. We had a variety of delegates from forest companies, MOFR, MoED, BCTS, forestry associations, post-secondary forestry programs, public school teachers and much more. Please visit www.forestedwest.ca for more information and pictures.
This will be my final letter as Publisher of this newsletter. By the time you read this, I will have retired and passed the reins on to Jennifer Stewart. It is interesting that Jen, Debbie Bazett and I put out the first newsletter together as a team. We shared the workload and were amazed at how many of you wanted to receive it. Since then, Jen took time off to start her family and is now returning to take my place as Forest Educational Liaison for the (North) Okanagan/Columbia. I wish her the best of luck.
Note: The Learn Forestry website will continue to be owned and managed by the Okanagan/Columbia forest educators while Debbie Bazett (COFI) will remain in her role as editor of the newsletter and Jen will take on the role of publisher. Debbie also lends her assistance when it comes to updating resource lists posted on the website. Please do check out the site once in a while to see what is new.
With all of the changes taking place in the industry, some of you may be on the move. I hope you will remain subscribers of the newsletter. Please feel free to offer a story or two whenever you have one. Debbie B. and Jen will be looking for your input.
